Brother Smith states, "...I desire to impress upon your mind the fact that he changes not; hence always acts just like himself, and if we may ascertain from the history of his dealings with the children of men in the past, how, and by what means he has ever performed any work he has ever accomplished, we will learn something as to the manner of his work in performing the marvelous and wonderful work spoken of in our text."

The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints arose from the fact that there had been a departure from the New Testament faith, and this ancient faith was restored by divine revelation. The apostasy from the primitive faith consisted of a series of errors that were added from time to time and which were taught in the name of the Christian religion. During the Reformation various attempts were made to reform the church. Thus many churches arose which taught conflicting doctrines and caused great religious confusion. But it has been generally admitted that none of them restored the simplicity and purity of the faith as it was in the New Testament age. Neither could they do so, for the faith was of God, divinely revealed, and manifested his power; therefore only God could cause it to be restored.

Prepared by action of the Order of Bishops and Resolution of the General Conference April 15, 1910. The Order of Bishops was asked to prepare an authoritative statement on the exposition of the Law relating to temporalities and its practical application for the membership of the Church.

This lecture was originally delivered in New York City on January 7, 1844.

The Lectures on Faith comprised the first part of the 1835 Kirtland edition of the D&C. It includes seven lectures of theology on the doctrine of the church, while the second part of the D&C make up the covenants and commandments, which are the principles for regulation of the church.

Refutes the claim that the Church became disorganized "'because' the president [Joseph Smith, Jr.] was killed, but as a result of departing from the faith on the part of many of the leading men in the church-Brigham Young especially included..."

Describes an interview with David Whitmer, one of the three witnesses of the Book of Mormon.

Letter contains information about Eber D. Howe, author of Mormonism Unvailed [sic]. "When asked by me what he [Howe] knew about Joseph Smith or S. Rigdon's connection with the Spaulding story, he said he didn't know anything." And, "He does not attempt to conceal the fact that the whole thing was gotten up for money speculation." Also contains information on John Whitmer, who stated, "...he knew as well as he knew he had an existence that Joseph (Smith) translated the ancient writing which was upon the plates which he 'saw and handled,' and which, as one of the scribes, he helped to copy, as the words fell from Joseph's lips, by supernatural or almighty power."

States that Oliver Cowdery (Elizabeth's husband) bore his testimony of the truth and divine origin of the Book Of Mormon until his death.

"There are four principal concepts of the communion among Christian people...The Latter Day Saint belief most nearly resembles the fourth of these concepts that the bread and wine are merely symbols; that there is no physical presence of Christ in those symbols; that the partaking of this sacrament is a memorial of Christ; and last but not least, that it is a memorial of the covenant the believer has made with Christ through the ordinances of baptism and the laying on of hands. The keynote or key word of the whole ordinance to us is remembrance -- remembrance of the sacrifice, the suffering, the broken body and spilled blood of our Lord, and remembrance of the covenant we have made with him to keep his commandments, a remembrance that we have taken his name upon us and been adopted into his family."
